Film critic Charles Solomon, the noted animation author and authority, has a pomegranate tree in his back yard in the hills near Griffith Park.  He cuts it back brutally every year and the more he abuses it the more it produces beautiful pomegranates, which become the perfect subject for a kitchen painting.
